ACT for Me Webisode Contest Winners

And the winners are...!

AC Transit celebrated its community by sponsoring an amateur video/film competition, the "ACT for Me Webisode Contest." The contest, that ended Oct. 26, 2008, asked for video and/or film submissions from 1-3 minutes in length, featuring the AC Transit community and highlighting the role the bus plays in the community. Contest rules stated: “The ACT for Me Webisode Contest stories don't have to be specifically about the bus or take place on the bus, but you must be able to get to the places where the stories happen by taking the bus. Documentary, comedy, romance and above all, originality are encouraged. “

From seven finalists, a distinguished panel of judges rated the webisodes on these criteria: originality, message/story, artistic quality, technical quality and overall impression.

The results are as follows:

Sunday Girl, by Richard Lopez: Grand Prize, selected from all entries and winner of $1500 cash and 6 months of free bus rides.

Judges’ comments: “This was a home run, by far the best..” “Well shot...”

Homesick, by Margaret Rhee and Maximillian Medina: First Prize - Adult (18 and over) and winner of $1000 cash and 3 months of free bus rides.

Judges’ comments: “Very cute, very original.” “I liked the cuteness, gets the message across.”

The Perfect Solution, by Chi Quan, Nancy Mai, Christopher Pulu and Po Yan Fong of Oakland High School: First Prize – Youth (14-17 or still in High School) and winners of $1000 cash and 3 months of free bus rides.

Judges’ comments: “I get the message.” “Nicely done and nice story..”

The distinguished panel of judges included: KTVU Channel 2 transportation and general assignment reporter Sal Castaneda, Alex Gronke, co-founder of Oakbook magazine and blog, KRON Channel 4 On the Move reporter Mark Jones, KCSM-FM DJ, former sound technician for NBC radio and national news, musician and composer, Vern Thompson.

Additional prize winners: Runners up and winners of an I-pod and one month of free bus rides: Intermix, by Nina Lescher: Runner Up – Adult (18 and over); The Date, by Melody C Miller of San Leandro High School - Runner-Up --Youth (14-17 or still in High School).

Finalists: winners of 1 week of free bus rides: On Broadway, by Vincent Horner and A Sad Banana, by Meredith Johnston of Piedmont High School.

Winning webisodes will be shown and prizes will be distributed at an awards ceremony scheduled to take place immediately before the next AC Transit Board of Directors Meeting, November 12, 2008 at 5pm, at AC Transit General Offices, 1600 Franklin St., Oakland, CA 94612.
