Community Benefits
AC Transit is the East Bay’s transportation backbone, providing safe, convenient, courteous and reliable service since 1960. The agency reduces traffic snarls, cuts down on harmful vehicle emissions and re-energizes neighborhoods by getting people out of their cars and onto the bus.
Every weekday, AC Transit carries 227,000 people to and from work and school, out on errands, visiting friends and family and just going wherever life takes them. Many of our riders have the option to drive private vehicles, but instead they consistently choose AC Transit as their primary transportation option.
The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District is the largest bus-only public transit system in the United States, serving 13 cities and neighboring unincorporated areas in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
With 105 bus lines and 6,500 stops, AC Transit takes you just about anywhere you want to go.
Accessible and Affordable
AC Transit offers affordable public transportation that allows seniors and people with disabilities to remain independent and provides a vital transit link for students traveling to and from school.

Schools
AC Transit serves 100 high schools, middle schools and junior high schools in the East Bay. Every day, our buses carry 30,000 children back and forth to school. For many families, we are the primary transportation option on school days and are committed to getting children where they need to go in safety.

Seniors
Because we know how important it is for seniors to remain independent and mobile, we offer discount passes for people who are 65 and older. Our 105 bus lines and 6,500 stops allow seniors a wide range of access to shopping, health care facilities, entertainment and social activities.

Accessibility
All AC Transit buses feature accessibility equipment that allows people with disabilities access to all of our routes. Passenger lifts, ramps, handrails and kneelers make it easier for people who find it hard to climb stairs to get on the bus. Priority seating is available and clearly identified on every bus.
Accessibility also means that AC Transit has other programs and services (such as the East Bay Paratransit, Regional Transit Connection Discount ID Card program and TDD telephone numbers for hearing-impaired persons).
